Jack Sparrow @ Greenwich

Saturday, October 9th, 2010

What could be more heart warming than a very popular actor taking precious time out of his production schedule to answer the request of a 9-year old girl at a school in Greenwich? Only Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow!

Johnny Depp apparently hearkened to the request of Beatrice Delap of Greenwich, England to stage a mutiny at school.  Captain Sparrow didn’t actually stage the mutiny but showed up in full regalia with his cronies. But here’s the point: he found time in his production schedule for the next Pirates of the Carribean! Hats off to you. Not only did you make the day of those school children in Greenwich, you made my day too! You have certainly guaranteed my ticket for the opening night.

Today (October 9, 2010) is the day that you will always remember as the day that Captain Jack Sparrow nearly mutinied against the teachers of  Meridian School!

Android Smartphone OS leads in the U.S.

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

So the strength of the Android OS is finally taking a lead against Apple’s iOS4 (NPD ReportsNeilson). This seems very much like the Microsoft V Apple situation of earlier years. Apple has always gone for the “high-end” market and though they had the chance to take the mainstream, they preferred to keep to their old ways: cooking up very restrictive rules on the very people that made their platform so successful, the developers.

It is going to be interesting to see Apple’s justifications in the coming months especially in the wake of mounting security issues which will inevitably rise as Apple’s platform gains prominence. Remember Apple’s bashing of Adobe for bugs? How does that look now with the faulty iPhone4 launch and mounting security issues? For a company that charges a premium for quality, this is a lot. Let’s see how it plays out.
